I am not sure about your comment that Son House taught Robert Johnson to play guitar, although just about everything connected with RJ is subject to speculation and rumour. However my understanding is that RJ used to watch Son House and Willie Brown whenever he could and he would stand there trying to see their guitar fingering. But SH would try to obscure his view as he did not want him to see what he was doing - he even advised RJ to give up thoughts of playing guitar (because he was no good) and stick to the harmonica. It is possible that before SH came on the scene, Willie Brown did teach Robert some chord shapes. RJ had also done the same (watching how he played) before this when Charley Patton came to town. However it is generally accepted that Ike Zimmerman did actually teach Robert how to really play guitar during the period when he went away from home for about a year or so, before returning and blowing everyone away with how good he had become.
