Bob - I agree with you re the 1952 John Lee Hooker recording of Key To The Highway. a) Eddie Kirkland's vocal harmonising is awful and it would be better without that and b) JLH is JLH and he is great due to his significant unique style - none of which is apparent on this recording which he is playing straight.
