Eric Burdon also did Tobacco Road with his "New Animals" around 1967 - very bluesy live versions around. This is great. He later followed up with a more funky (and more "black" ) version with War.
But also check out Spooky Tooth's Progressive/blues/rock version on their first album. Another good'un.
